December 19, 2019 (Tannersville, NY) — Today, the New York State Regional Economic Development Council announced annual awards for projects across the State. Greene County was awarded over $4.6M for projects across the county, including three projects in the Village of Tannersville totalling over $1.4 million dollars.
The Hunter Foundation was awarded $50,000 for the strategic investment planning to support a multi-site and multi-amenity Culinary Hub based at Fromer Market Gardens. This grant will give the Hunter Foundation the chance to expand opportunities for residents and visitors alike to enjoy a world-class local, organically produced food experience on the mountaintop.
“The Hunter Foundation and the Village of Tannersville are excited to receive these generous grants from the New York state REDC,” stated Sean Mahoney, Executive Director of the Hunter Foundation. “This funding will make an immediate and dramatic positive impact, to our small mountaintop community. We look forward to working with Empire State Development and our local partners to develop these projects that bring further investments to our region.”
With $1.3M for Rip Van Winkle Lake awarded this round, the Gooseberry Creek Revitalization Strategy Phase II project will allow the Village of Tannersville to develop a trail along Saw Mill Creek connecting Main Street to Rip Van Winkle Lake and create accessible and age-friendly recreation amenities at Gooseberry Park. This investment further connects our iconic painted village with an updated and picturesque natural playground.
The combined $1.4M dollar investments will begin in 2020. You can read more about the projects awarded across the state on the REDC website: https://regionalcouncils.ny.gov/
