The original building on the property, constructed in 1897, served as Lackey’s Drug Store and soda fountain. Ralph Lord later partnered with the business, creating Lackey and Lord’s Drug Store. During the 1940s and into the 60s, a sweater shop called Mill Outlet Shops was operated in the building, offering the community high-end, quality clothing at affordable prices.
In 1965 the original building burned down. The current structure was built and operated as Smiley’s Ice Cream for a number of years. The Hunter Foundation purchased the iconic location in 2011 and initiated construction and refurbishments to establish a 12-seat indoor dining area and a lovely outdoor dining space.
Mama’s Boy Burgers then opened in May of 2015, owned and operated by Michael Koegel. It has received great reviews from locals and tourists alike. Mama’s Boy is open 7 days a week serving the best burgers and milkshakes!
