Located at 55 Allen Lane, Colonial Country Club was originally Tannersville Country Club. The course first opened on May 1st, 1930 with private memberships. The founding officers and directors were Milo Claude Moseman, Michael Lackey Jr., Louis Allen, Julius C. Dolan, Leroy W. Atwater, Aaron J. Levy, and M. Heparin. The Club operated for a number of years before closing.

Howard and Mary Leach then purchased the property in 1960 and renamed it Colonial Country Club. Initially, the Clubhouse was connected to the house on the property. It was relocated to its present position, and a swimming pool was constructed on the property in the 1970s. Many members of the Leach family aided in operating the course for 54 years.

The Hunter Foundation purchased the Colonial Golf Course in January of 2018. We extended miles of bike trails along the “Back 9” through the efforts of numerous volunteers. In addition to its natural beauty, Colonial Golf Course offers a range of amenities that make it an ideal venue for all kinds of occasions. From Fourth of July fireworks displays to other special events throughout the summer months, this property truly has something for everyone.

In the fall of 2023, the Hunter Foundation announced a new partnership with John and Sara Smith of Rip Van Winkle Country Club located in Palenville, NY. John and Sara will assume operational responsibilities for Colonial Golf Course, including the clubhouse restaurant.

For the past 94 years, the beautiful nine-hole golf course located at 55 Allen Lane has been a beloved destination for many community members. The elegant stucco house on the premises has become an iconic feature of our mountaintop. The course is now open for the season, and we look forward to seeing you there!
