The Fromer Property was purchased in 2015. The main focus has been on the installation and creation of a year-round, full scale market farm that produces fresh produce year round and sells through a small farm stand which opened in 2017. Additionally, we have invested close to half a million dollars renovating the historic Fromer Main House on the property. As part of the Department of Environmental Conservation (DEC) requirements, a storm water mitigation plan was put in place.
Contact us if you would like to inquire about this property. The Barn at Fromer Market Gardens is the perfect location for hosting intimate weddings, private parties, fundraisers, dinners, and more! We also offer comfortable lodging options on the property and nearby, as well as recommendations for talented chefs, caterers, florists, and other local servers in the area.
The Farmer :
Samantha Metz joined our team at Fromer Market Gardens in February 2020. She grew up in Montville, New Jersey and graduated in 2017 from the University of New Hampshire with a B.S. in Sustainable Agriculture and Food Systems. From there she apprenticed on a 20-acre vegetable farm in South Jersey for two seasons. She joined our team one month before the pandemic hit and has led the way ever since, ensuring quality and quantity needs are met every week.
A Note from our Farmers:
Fromer Market Gardens (FMG) is a small-scale market farm project on less than one acre of production area and a state-of-the-art 8600 square foot cold-weather greenhouse. FMG provides clean, fresh vegetables to the mountaintop community year round. The Saturday Market, from 9am-2pm, provides an opportunity for the community to meet their farmers, ask questions, and explore wholesome produce grown on site and a variety of added value products from local and regional producers. In addition, FMG also sells produce to local restaurants and works closely with HTC on developing educational programs for the students.
We partner with area producers and local businesses to strengthen our food system and provide affordable access to clean fresh food to any socio-economic status. Our methods are derived from successful market gardeners all over the country. With a focus on organic and biodynamic techniques, we are setting an example and showcasing how viable (and fun!) a career in farming can be. In addition to using newer methods of farming, we are attempting to farm at an elevation of 2,200 ft., and in very cold northeastern climates.
