Professional Biography of Mary Jude Cohen

Mary’s interest in yoga began when she was 11 years old at the foot of her father, who was a pioneer in Iyengar yoga and she has been practicing yoga in its many forms since then. Mary was certified to teach and joined the Yoga Alliance in 2014, shortly after moving to Hunter, NY.  She has continued training, most recently focusing on pranayama and myofascial release techniques.  She is a certified Reiki practitioner, as well as an avid skier, biker and swimmer. Mary’s overriding principle is for each student to experience the same joy in their practice as she did when she began more than 50 years ago.

Yoga for Athletes and Injuries

Yoga for Athletes and Injuries is geared to those who are recovering from injuries and who may be experiencing some reluctance to challenge themselves again.  This class will focus on movement techniques designed to strengthen and elongate the muscles and restore a sense of balance and body awareness.  Athletes often favor one side of the body, so this class will help to bring both sides of the body into full readiness for the challenges of sport.

Joyful Yoga

Joyful Yoga is a session of poses designed to release stress and allow freer movement along the spine.  Beginners and advanced yogis will develop flexibility and strength as the classes progress through the season.   As movement becomes freer and less restricted, the ability to experience spontaneous joy is enhanced.
